The Mouse that Roared

From the book, a film was made back in 1959 called, “The Mouse that Roared.”  We have just borrowed this title, so as to contemplate this thought, something that was despised is now in preeminence, that which was thought to be of no value has become the center of attention.  Cinderella came from a dirty rag clad kitchen slave, to marry the prince and then become King and Queen of the nation, “The Mouse that Roared.”  Psalm 118:22-23 “The stone [which] the builders refused is become the head [stone] of the corner.  This is the LORD’S doing; it [is] marvellous in our eyes.”  This is one of the many “Messianic Prophecies,” where Jesus is depicted as the rejected one, the refused, that became the most critical, “The mouse that roared,” the ignored becomes the Saviour redeemer and King.  Isaiah 53:3-5 “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”  That useless little mouse, whatever can they achieve?

Luke 19:14 “But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this [man] to reign over us.”  Where they saw a “Mouse,” there was actually a Monarch, a very powerful ruler in fact, who is actually the ruler of heaven and earth, someone who can “Roar,” with authority and power. Luke 10:21 “In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.”  Jesus here on earth at that time was a “mouse” and few saw that the scepter of rule was soon to be placed in his hand, all judgment was to be under his control, a situation where “The Mouse that Roared,” will roar with authority and power, and justice will be served and things will actually happen.

Take the case of ‘King Saul,’ he was new at the job, but his corrupt passions and inflated ego meant that he was failing, so then he threw his authority about, but was still failing.  Along comes a shepherd boy, with a wee pebble in his pocket, and then single handedly in essence slew a huge and powerful army, “The Mouse that Roared,” and the Philistines melted and fled.  Saul failed, and failed to heed, so this mouse of a shepherd boy was anointed “King,” so King Saul set about to destroy him, to shakily hold onto power, but God had appointed, and it was going to happen as predicted, king Saul was petrified of the roar of this wee mouse.  As was once said, “Beware of all those who you stomp on and stand on and climb over as you attempt to climb up the ladder of success, for you may well end up working under them on your way back down.”  “The Mouse that Roared.”

Joel 3:16-18 “The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD [will be] the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.  So shall ye know that I [am] the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.  And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.” Ephesians 2:20 “And [ye] are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone];” Matthew 21:42 “Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?”The despised and rejected of men, was “The Mouse that Roared,” Isaiah 53:2-3 “For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him.  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”  The year of 2022 is about gone, 2023 is upon us, “The mouse that Roared,” is something we overlooked, we despised and rejected, treated as of warranting none of our attention, that rubbish old lump of stone, became the chief cornerstone, that wet nosed kid with a shepherds bag and a sling, well he defeated a whole army of seasoned soldiers, that work colleague you mocked, could well be your next employer, and that Christian Jesus that was treated as of no value, has now been appointed and crowned King of the Universe, yes that little mouse.  Let us resolve to “Majoring in Minors,” watching and treasuring the little things, an unexpected hug and kiss of gratitude for the spouse, a quick play with the children, though tired and exhausted will mean heaps to them and will revive your spirit also.  That fellow over there, that stranger, could well be a mouse, Hebrews 13:2 “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”  Matthew 7:12 ERV “Do for others what you would want them to do for you. This is the meaning of the Law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets.”  Remember the little things, be careful about how you live, what you despise and reject, cause that just might turn out to be, “The Mouse that Roared,” go forth and achieve in 2023.
