Fossilized

A fossil is something that has been quickly buried in soft mud, probably by a deluge or a flood, and then the mud in time settles and solidifies and then it progressively turns into stone and the plant, insect, object or creature or whatever it is, is now a fossil, looking just like it was when as it was buried, though often a bit flattened from the process.  Ephesians 2:5 “Even when we were dead in sins, He hath quickened us together with Christ, (for by grace ye are saved.)”  There was an interesting film series made called “Jurassic Park” where fossilized became re-born, and the island was inhabited by dinosaurs of many types and sizes, living fossils.

Jesus Christ, who is the Creator of all things, Colossians 1:14 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”  Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

You see about 6,000 years ago, at the start of this world, at Creation, Jesus Christ got down on his knees in the fresh new mud, scooped up inanimate red mud, made a perfect form, breathed into mud man His breath of life, and mud man lived, moved and had his being, so Jesus called him “red mud” (Adam), so in essence that which was fossilized now lived, breathed and existed, Adam was now alive, a living soul.  Acts 17:28 “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”  We have the choice as to remaining dead in our trespasses and sins as a fossil, or we can repent and let Jesus Christ once more breathe new life into us, through confession and repentance, and re-generation.  Job 14:14 “If a man die, shall he live [again]? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.”

While we live, Jesus Christ is always and forever just waiting for our response and acceptance of him, dead in trespasses and sin, then you are forever fossilized.  But for a “Born again Christian,” if you should ever die “In Christ” then on Resurrection Morning, when all the Dead in Christ shall rise (1 Thess 4:16), then all God’s Children will be seen forever young, un-Fossilized.  There is an interesting phraseology used when the Bible talks about dead sinners, and it is that they are dead, past-tense and non-existent, sort of fossilized, but a Saint is usually referred to as being still around, sort of still in existence, although just asleep, or they are sort of in a “Holding Pattern,” which implies that they are definitely not Fossilized, but are you, or have you become Fossilized by the cares of this life?

Romans 12:1-2 “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and just place it before God as an offering.  Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.  Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.  Instead fix your attention on GOD.  You’ll be changed from inside out.  Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it.  Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, GOD brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. [MSG]

Paul saw that the cares of this life were definitely making “Fossils” out of some of the Church members, they were being pressed down, squeezed under the weight of trespasses and sins, the cares of this life, squeezing out the very life “In Christ” and making them more and more every day a “Fossil.”  John 6:63 “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.”  Do you have “real life” or are you just a preserved relic, a Fossil, having a “form of Godliness” with no real life?

Dear Reader: Are you “Alive in Christ” or are you just an inanimate “Fossilized,” person?  You can still retain the shape and Human form, with less life than a rock, Fossilized.  2 Timothy 3:5 “Having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”  Here Paul is looking at people waving the “I am a Christian” flag, and they do have a semblance and a form of being a Christian, but they are “Fossilized” as there is no breath of God in them, they are dead in their trespasses and sins, they are a Fossil, as much good as a Door Stop, when God wants living breathing spiritually alive people to interact with him and to talk to him, Jesus wants that real and alive you, so come back to real life by the Breath of God through his Holy Spirit, Born again by the Spirit, and then quit being a “Dead Fossil” but now alive in the breathe of Jesus Christ moment by moment sustaining you, a Real Christian, or are you still just a Fossil?
