Spin Doctor

In life we often discover that there is a massive difference between what actually really and truly happened, and what gossip, social media, or whatever, try to put their spin and bias on everything, when the News Broadcast go out and put their particular “Spin” on the story.  Let us choose a story from scripture and then put a ‘spin’ on it, then which edition sounds best, which did you accept?  Let us start with some background, King David had conquered all his enemies, there is peace and prosperity in the land, and all those that rise up to threaten by war and invasion are very soon put down, destroyed and humbled.

Story 1; The evening is stifling hot, when the cooling breeze blows up the mountain side, so King David gets up out of his sweaty bed and goes out onto his roof top terrace to cool off and to admire the evening views of the sleepy city spread out below him.  Looking down he spies Bathsheba, his best general and also his neighbour’s wife, cooling off with a sponge bath, and she was very beautiful to look upon.  He lingers way too long, his thoughts race, his passions are on fire, desire is now most powerful, messengers went next door and she came in unto her king, and she was ushered in, and when she left next morning, she was now pregnant with his child.  She sent the king a message, confirming the pregnancy.  David tries to cover his tracks by getting her husband home for a few days R&R, but he did not then go home to his wife, instead he stayed with the palace guards, finally the King sent a message in the hand of her husband to the general fighting against a city, to put Uriah in the heat of the battle, to then pull back so that he might be killed, and that is what happened.  After the funeral, King David took Bathsheba into the palace to be a wife unto himself.  What a despicable scum bag, taking what is not his, killing one of his very best and most faithful and effective commanders, just to try to hide his adulterous affair, what depths of depravity has he sunk to, and then he dragged Bathsheba down as well, she is such an amazing person and a pillar in the community.

Story 2; Did you hear about poor Bathsheba, you know, Uriah’s wife, he’s that one who lives right next to our wonderful King, that brave and valiant soldier who is one of the very best and most victorious and faithful in the army, well you know that he has just been killed in the latest battle, such an amazing warrior, faithful in all his way, he will be so sorely missed in the army, and his widow, and you know that she is pregnant as well, so our wonderful kind and caring King David has taken her into the Royal Palace, and she and her baby, when it is born, will be well cared for by the king and the servants will look after them, oh what a wonderful caring monarch we have, to take such tender care over the widow of his friend and neighbour, when in such sad and heart retching affliction he has once again shown his compassion and care for his neighbour and one of his most successful warriors.

‘Spin Doctor,’ well I guess it depends on your preconceived notions and thoughts about King David, do you love or loathe, support or despise?  Do you treat spouse, children, neighbour’s, politicians and leaders with a ‘Spin Doctor,’ spin, and plaster the story with your specific tilt or lean, to either uplift or to smear and to condemn?  Matthew 12:37 “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”  2 Timothy 4:8 “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”  There is no ‘Spin Doctor’ here, just purity and truth, a ‘thus saith the Lord,’ Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

What he said, what she said, what they said, I was told that, who said what to convince you of what, or to do what, and what ‘Spin Doctor’ was applied and how thickly?  Micah 6:8 “He hath showed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”  Genesis 17:1 “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.”  2 Chronicles 7:17 “And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;” Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”  We should always apply this principle, “Thus saith the Lord,” “It is Written,” what is right, what is just, what is honourable, what is Godly, by our words, speech actions and deeds, do they clearly represent God or something else, or has a ‘Spin Doctor’ been applied?Philippians 4:7-8 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.”  Matthew 4:4 “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”  There is no ‘Spin Doctor’ with God, it is all straight up purity, truth and righteousness, so let us live God’s way, speak purity and truth and forget the ‘Spin Doctor.’  Just in closing remember that, ‘Liars know how to turn things around and make it seem like it’s all your fault,’ and that is the ultimate “Spin Doctor.”
