Built on the Rock

There are so many wonderful revelations in Scripture, and we find so much everywhere when we explore, but let us have some fun with this, ‘Rock Solid’ as a new subject. 1 Corinthians 10:4 “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”  Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock [Christ Jesus] I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  1 Corinthians 3:11-15 “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.  Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.  If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.  If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

The Parable; Matthew 7:24-27 ERV “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”   In our story, we find that the torrential stormy downpour created a huge flash flood, this flood now burst through the back door of the house, slamming the door hard back and pinning it firmly back against the wall as it roared in through the rear of the house, then rushing through the rooms and sweeping most things out before it, in the back and out the front door, the front door swings wide open as the torrent roars through the opening, and even the front windows flew open spilling and gushing tears of dirty flood water out onto the front yard.  A big cleanup is now to begin, buckets and mops, lots of clean water, and there we are as good as new, but minus some rugs and furniture that just recently floated away.  The house “Built on the Rock” stood proudly and firmly upon its firm foundations, whereas the neighbor’s house was never to be seen again, and even the place where it had once stood, well there was now just minimal evidence of it ever having been there in the first place, it was just plain gone.  Mark 4:37 “And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.”  Just as the boat in this story filled up, so our house filled up as the waves of the storm, the floods and strife beat hard, yet the house stood firm as it was built on solid rock.  Ephesians 3:17-19 “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what [is] the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”

Acts 20:32 “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”  When we build upon the rock ‘Christ Jesus,’ we find that the “Rock” is a living rock, so therefore our walls and stone roof sort of morph or blend and dissolve, making it impossible to see any joints or cracks, making all inspections to declare that this house was actually carved out of this chunk of solid rock.  Ephesians 2:19-22 “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”   1 Peter 2:4-5 “To whom coming, [as unto] a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, [and] precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”  Colossians 2:6-7 “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”  1 Corinthians 3:9 “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, [ye are] God’s building.”  2 Chronicles 20:20 “And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”Our ‘Prosperity’ is based on being built up from the rock, that is being rooted and grounded upon the Rock Christ Jesus our Lord, becoming established, being like him as lively stones, built up from the foundation stone, being ‘One with God’ and making it impossible to find any flaws or blemishes, and to be declared as ‘oneness’ and completely and flawlessly of one with the foundation.  John 15:5 “I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”  Just as a vine or tree cannot exist and flourish without a strong and healthy root, thus we cannot be strong and immoveable without being rooted and grounded in Christ.   Colossians 1:27 “To whom God would make known what [is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” Christ in you, you in Christ, fitted and joined, one with God, as if carved out of “Solid Rock.” So, are you part of the ‘Solid Rock’ being “Built on the Rock?”
